John Arman had voluntarily returned to his battalion after taking three weeks’ absence without leave in August [1918]. No disciplinary action was taken against Arman, an Estonian who had been a labourer in Australia, but he didn’t manage to evade his fate — he was killed in action on 1 October 1918.
