From Russian Anzacs in Australian History:
The Estonian Peter Jurgenson, a former seaman, ended up unfit for service with injuries to his left eye after being blown up at the battle for Sugar-loaf salient and rendered ‘unconscious till he found himself in hospital’. On returning to Australia, he went back where he had started farming before the war, at Wokalup. ‘He never got a pension’, his son relates, ‘he applied for one and they mucked around so much that he told them to stick it! … Married in 1923, built a cottage at Wokalup and started farming. Milked cows, had pigs, then had a poultry farm. As well, he did building — many houses are still around to this day.’
