Victor Mikolaizyk, a former seaman whose occupation was given as winch-driver at enlistment, lost his discharge certificate in 1925 ‘in the camp at the time of bush fires in Dungowan NSW’; a few years later, when he resumed seafaring, he again lost it — this time ‘lost at sea when SS Brolga was sunk off Victorian coast in 1927 or 28’.
