A few Russians who managed to gain qualifications and experience ended up having successful professional careers here. The Estonian Christian Orgeson, who was wounded in the right hand at Ypres, was one; a seaman before the war, with the Repatriation Department’s assistance he did a trade course at Sydney Technical College to become a motor mechanic.
