Born in Odessa, Russia, Ivan P Rossoggsky was the son of Mrs P. A. Rossoggsky of Benderi, Roumania. He was employed for two years by John Simpson of 'Fair View' Moonan Flat working on 'Glen Rock'. Ivan enlisted, expressing his wish to "Fight for his new King and Country". Known to his mates as Pedro, Ivan, a single man, was 21 years and 7 month of age when taken into A Company of the 34lh Battalion at West Maitland on Australia Day 1916. The 34th was known as "Maitland's Own Battalion". Ivan was 5 foot 6 inches (165cm) tall and his religious denomination was Roman Catholic. [...]

Having no known grave his name is recorded on The Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, at Ieper, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. Where the Last Post is still played nightly.
Despite considerable effort, the Army were unable to contact his Mother to notify her of Ivan's death and send her his service medals; the British War Medal #38514 and the Allied Victory Medal # 38201.
Ivan's name also appears on;
