From Russian Anzacs in Australian History:

Ladislav Susil was a Slav from Austerlitz (Slavkov), near Brno in Moravia (now Czech Republic), who sought the Russian consul’s protection as a ‘Russian’ Bohemian, which he was able to do because the Russian consulate (following official Russian pan-Slav policy) extended its protection to all Slavs at the outbreak of war, no matter where they were from. In this case, Susil obviously ‘posed for a Russian’ to avoid being interned as a German.
