Educational visits for school groups
As part of Apace's ongoing commitment to promote renewable energy use, we
are developing a school's programme. This includes the development of on-site
displays and educational activities at Apace. During 1998 and 1999, 500 to 1000
students a year have visited the Apace site. Apace is in receipt of funding from
the Office of Energy (WA) to upgrade the renewable energy component of these
site visits
Grid-connected solar and wind energy for schools
As part of our "hands-on" approach to stimulating the uptake
of renewable energy in the community, Apace is developing a participatory
programme for schools centred around the installation of their own roof-mounted
grid-connected photovoltaic systems. These Apace designed systems have
built-in computer interfaces and are ideal for participatory educational
exercises.

As of May 2000, two Perth schools, Craigie Senior High and Willetton Senior
High, are participating and have Apace designed and installed systems operating
on site. A unique feature of these systems is an Apace developed software
package which integrates the educational and monitoring aspects of the system.
The software gives a graphical presentation of solar system output alongside
detailed daily and monthly projections of the expected solar energy resource and
archived daily and monthly performance data. This pilot programme is supported
by funding from the Office of Energy. With the advent of the Australian
Greenhouse Office community/educational PV subsidy from July 2000 the uptake of these school systems is anticipated to grow strongly.
