NEWS

8/3/09 — Welcome to the latest Grave Forsaken news update. Not long to go until the release of the new album “This Day Forth”. We will have some exact details on the release in the coming weeks. Early reports continue to come in from people who have heard the album, and so far we’re very excited by the reaction. We keep hearing things like “old school thrash” and “megadeth vibe”. It is truly cool to have people respond to your music in the way you intended.

Most of you know we are never ones to rest on our laurels, so to that end we are busily editing the live show that we recorded last year. We are also going to hit the studio again in the next couple of months to record 2 new tracks. Should the live mix turn out well, we will be adding these two new songs to the release. More details as they come to hand.

Yesterday we had a rehearsal, and we were working on some new riffs now that “This Day Forth” is in the can. We have written some material using a different tuning and I’ve got to say I’m enjoying the change. It’s good to keep things fresh. Of course, we are also rehearsing some of the songs from the new album for when we need to perform them live. Rehearsals have been going really well of late.

Well, that’s about it for now. Until next time – God Bless and Rock On!

31/1/09 — Hello again everyone. A lot of work has been going on behind the scenes to prepare for the release of our new album This Day Forth. The album has been submitted to Soundmass, and an official release date will be announced shortly. If you want to get your copy a little earlier, email us at graveforsaken@argo.net.au and ask to join the Mosher Crew. It is free to join, and crew members will receive their copies from Soundmass before the official release date. You will have seen the cover artwork on our front page. The drawing was done by Charlie Pirhanen, while the artwork was coloured by our regular artist Ari Vahakainu.

If you head over to our myspace page at www.myspace.com/graveforsaken you can hear the title track of the new album. We definitely feel this is one of our best songs yet and gives you a really good taste of the album. We hope you enjoy!

In more cool news, the January episode of Grave Forsaken is up on youtube. Go to this location or head over to our media to check out the episode. This episode contains a few sneak peaks of songs from the new album. Once you’ve checked it out, let us know what you think!

Make sure you stay tuned, because there will be heaps of news surrounding the release of the album in the next few weeks. Until next time, rock on!

5/11/08 — G’day everyone, thanks for checking out the latest update. We are in the final stages of the making of our brand new album “This Day Forth”. All recording has been done, and we are now in the mixing phase. The journey we have undertaken on this album has been a long one, and over the next few months worth of updates we will be filling you in on what has been quite a gruelling process (making an album always is).

We started work on the album in February (yes, prior to the release of Destined For Ascension). Ideally we would like to be a one album per year kind of band. Both Elias’s wife and my wife were pregnant, so we knew not much would get done in the second half of the year. If we wanted an album out in 2009, we needed to start early. So that’s what we did — we began writing and arranging. We’ve kept it to ourselves since then because we knew it was still a while off and we were planning how it would be released. The good news is that the entire process from preproduction through to final recordings has been captured on video, and a documentary on the making of this album will see the light of day in some form or another in 2009.

In other news, we have a couple of new shows booked. We are playing SJ Rock 4 in Byford on Friday December 5th and Xmas at the Castle at the Castle on December 20th. Both gigs have solid lineups and should be a blast. At SJ Rock 4 we have a couple of young bands opening up, while the Castle gig features some of Perth’s finest metal bands, including Neverborn and The Furor. We hope to see you there!

Don’t forget to head over to the MEDIA page and check out Grave Forsaken TV. This is a new fly on the wall internet series we have started making. The aim is to give you a real insight into the inner workings of the band and get a perspective on why we do what we do. The clips are all available on youtube in the ever growing section of Grave Forsaken videos.

Well that’s about it for now. I hope you all have a good week and we’ll catch you again soon.

30/10/08 – Grave Forsaken, in conjunction with Soundmass, is pleased to announce the following huge news

“Soundmass is pleased to announce the signing of Western Australian band Grave Forsaken for the release of their 3rd album, “This Day Forth”, due out in early 2009. Formed in 2004, this rising thrash band has been polishing their skills with regular recording and live performances, never forgetting their roots with strong influences from the classic Christian metal era. Recent changes in the band have seen the addition of drummer Dave Kilgallon (Mortification/Scourged Flesh) and the departure of vocalist Tim Steadman, who’s shoes have been more than capably filled by guitarist Vaughan Gregory. The band is rounded out by Elias Salmela (guitar) and Matt Skipworth (bass). Check them out: www.graveforsaken.com

We hope that the partnership with Soundmass will be long and fruitful. We have been big supporters of Soundmass since day one, so to us it feels like a natural fit to be involved with the label. We have had a lot to do with Soundmass already, as they have distributed our 3 Rowe Productions releases.

The move to Soundmass wraps up 2 fantastic years on Rowe Productions. Steve Rowe is a close personal friend of the band, and this move to Soundmass comes with his full support. I would just like to publicly thank Steve for the amazing support he has given our band while we’ve been on Rowe Productions. Our relationship with Steve and Mortification will continue, not least because Dave is the drummer for both bands! Given where we were at musically when Steve met us over 2 years ago, it was amazing leap of faith for him to sign us to the label. His encouragement has given the band self belief, and his constant support has opened us to a much wider audience than ever before. He is a true man of God, and we simply cannot thank him enough for taking a gamble with us on Rowe Productions.

As the update says, our next album is entitled “This Day Forth”, and is due for release early next year. We have been recording this during the year with Daniel Holmes (Templar/Scourged Flesh) at Fattdog Studios. All tracking is done, and the album is being mixed and mastered during November. It is a musical leap forward from “Destined For Ascension”, and is undoubtedly our best work yet. We are excited to unleash it early next year. Many more details are to come on this—so stay tuned.

Thanks for stopping by, and we’ll catch you again soon.

God Bless and Rock On!

22/10/08 - The big news I have to announce this update is the departure of our great friend and original Grave Forsaken member Tim Steadman. Tim was of course originally the drummer in the band, and then switched to vocals just over a year ago when Dave joined on drums. Tim has a very busy life with a lot of responsibilities, making it hard for him to dedicate the time he would like to the band. All of us sat down and discussed the situation, and it has led to Tim stepping aside. As a result, I (Vaughan) will be stepping back into the role of lead vocalist that I vacated for Tim last year.

Tim has been a massive part of Grave Forsaken, and we would like to acknowledge publicly the role he has played in the band. It is not a fullstop ending, as Tim remains the closest of friends, and I’m sure he will be a familiar face at shows and other events for a long time to come.

So Tim, as you depart the band, we’d officially like to thank you for all the time and energy you have put in. You have been a real blessing and a great friend. You know what this band means to us, and therefore you should know how much we value your time with us. Good luck with the future mate.

9/8/08 - G'day all. Just a quick update. We've been working hard on new material these last few weeks. So far we've come up with 4 new songs, but no lyrics left. Were tossing around a few ideas for the next album, but were looking at something really epic.

I have recently put together a studio in my new house, so all future Grave Forsaken albums can be recorded there. This will help financially as producing albums is the biggest cost we face.

We're looking to secure some gigs over the following months - our aim is to organise one gig a month on average, plus any other gigs we get offered. If you want us to play at your church or youth club, please email us and we'll see what we can do.

Like I said, only a quick update today - you'll hear from us again soon!

16/7/08 - G'day Grave Forsaken fans, Vaughan here. I'm thrlled to be able to give you this update. It's been a huge couple of months for Grave Forsaken months. Firstly, on June 6th my wife gave to birth to our first child, Aaron Nicholas Gregory. We are extremely proud parents. He is 6 weeks old tomorrow, so life is starting to return a little to normal, though nowadays we have a new normal! Thanks to all our friends and fans who sent their congratulations when this great news was announced on the forums. It's good to bring another headbanger into the world.

The other amazing news is that our drummer and great friend Dave Kilgallon has joined Mortification! You may have already heard this news from the Mort site. For us in Grave Forsaken this is a huge honour. We have worn our Mortification influence proudly on our sleeves since day one, so to have one of our best friends join the band is mindblowing. The best part for Grave Forsaken fans is that Dave will continue to play and record with us. When offered the gig, none of us would have begrudged Dave moving interstate to join Mort, but he has decided to stay and fly in to join Steve and Mick when they play live and record. The best of both worlds! In the last few years we've formed a firm friendship with Mortification and I just want to give departing drummer Damien Percy my best wishes, I was lucky enough to hang out with Damien a few times and I found him to be such an honest and encouraging guy.  Thanks for the conversations we had Damien - particularly the one after Blackstump last year. Your advice was invaluable.

Destined For Ascension shirts are now available from Soundmass and unDark stores. These are short sleeved black shirts with full colour Destined For Ascension artwork. Get yours today.

We have two gigs this weekend. First up at Serpentine-Jarrahdale Rec Centre on Friday night. Doors open 7.00pm. Then on Saturday night we are playing the Castle in Northbridge. We are on second in a strong local lineup. Please be praying for us during these gigs as we aim to get 50 people at each gig. The Friday night gig will be recorded, so if we play well enough it could be mixed and mastered into a live release. Also be praying we can make a good impression at the Castle. The Perth metal scene is so strong that we need to be at our best to assist getting further gigs. A huge thanks to Rowland Gwynne for putting on the gig and giving us the chance to play the show. We pretty much live to record and play, so we can't wait.

Well, that gets you up to date. Thanks for all your support. One thing I've always promised is that Grave Forsaken will be there for the long haul. We are called to do this and we are committed to rocking like Lemmy and Rolling Stones. We're never going to stop!

God Bless
Vaughan and Grave Forsaken
